Hopeful Flower Wrap Up! from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

We have come to the end of our Hopeful Flowers Stitch Along and we have been thrilled at the great participation we have had. Most of all, we have loved seeing the wealth of creativity and the way that everyone has put their own spin on this little project!

Today, I (Kara) am going to go over the simple setting we used to finish our four blocks.  Since the embroidery is the focus of this project, we didn't want any finish that was too fancy or complicated. The sashing is made up of 1-inch strips (finished 1/2"), and ...

Hopeful Flowers Week 4 from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

It has been nice focusing on flowers while many of us have had nothing but cold, snowy weather. Here in Germany, we are experiencing a bit of spring weather, and the snowdrops and crocuses are starting to show their faces. I (Kara) can't believe we are on our last flower in this stitch along!

This week's block is one of my favorites—mainly because it has the cast-on stitch as the center focal point. The cast-on stitch can be a little tricky, but once you get the hang of it, you can do so many things with it ...

Hopeful Flowers Week 3 from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

After a two-week break, we are ready to jump back in to our Hopeful Flowers Stitch Along. It has been great to see all the progress that has been posted in our Facebook group—especially when we see how you have been putting your own touches on these little patterns. This week we are going to be focusing on the turquoise flower.

This block has some interesting stitches that create a lot of texture—the Palestrina, wheat ear, Cretan, and seed stitch. While they look complicated, we think you will love these stitches once you get the hang of them ...

Hopeful Flowers Week 2 from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Here we are at Week 2 of our Hopeful Flowers Stitch Along! It has been great to see the blocks that everyone has been posting over in the Facebook group. We love seeing how you take our pattern and make it your own.

Today's block is the periwinkle flower, and we have used a couple of unique stitches for this one—the Pekinese stitch and the cable chain stitch, along with our good friends the blanket stitch and the French knot. Again, we will be doing something a bit different with the blanket stitch, but it is a fun ...

Hopeful Flowers—Week One from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Our Hopeful Flowers Stitch Along is here!

We are thrilled to be able to share this free project with you over the course of the next two months. This wallhanging came about because we wanted to create something that focused on going beyond the blanket stitch for wool appliqué. The inspiration for the palette came from the amazing Tres Jolie lawns from French General that I (Kara) purchased this summer. We knew right from the start that this would be a great second project for our little Hopeful Bluebird Facebook Group. Little did we know that this small group would ...

A Few of Our Favorite Tools from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Last week, Kara filled you in on our upcoming Hopeful Flowers Stitch Along, and we were delighted by the interest. Our Facebook group grew by hundreds of eager stitchers wanting to learn some new embroidery skills! Thank you all for your participation; we hope you are as excited as we are to get started next week!

You will not only be able to use those new embroidery techniques in our Hopeful Flowers project; we are also participating in two Mystery quilt groups. As they are mysteries, I (Teri) can't say much, but you can join the respective Facebook groups ...
